"Young Explorers" is an immersive one-month journey designed to ignite a passion for reading and critical thinking in pre-teens. We move beyond plot summaries to explore the themes, ideas, and craftsmanship behind the stories. This programme prepares students to be independent, analytical readers and confident communicators. By engaging with a diverse range of genres and complex texts, students will learn to form and articulate their own interpretations, build sophisticated vocabulary, and write thoughtful responses.
Each week builds on the last, creating a progressive and exciting learning adventure
We learn to 'read between the lines'. We practice making inferences based on textual evidence and analyzing character motivations and plot development.
We dive into different genres (e.g., Mystery, Sci-Fi, Historical Fiction). We explore the unique features of each and compare how authors build worlds.
We explore big ideas like 'courage', 'justice', and 'identity'. We look for themes across different texts and learn to write reflective responses.
Students develop a final project on a theme or book of their choice. They prepare and deliver a confident presentation to demonstrate their learning and critical thinking.
